OUR STORY

Founded

Following several years working in the steel and aluminium industries in New Zealand, the UK and US, Derek Turnbull returns to Auckland and starts Tamaki.

1988

First Hire

After 6 years of  automation projects as a sole trader, Derek hires his first engineer, Steve Holmes.

Incorporation

Tamaki Control Limited is incorporated in New Zealand. More Engineers join.

1997

Shareholders and Directors Join

New Shareholders join and Roger Chan becomes a Director.

Employee Growth

By now, Tamaki employs 13 engineers, including Blair, Joe, Donny, Chris, Mark, Ziad and Johnny.

United Kingdom

Joe and Ziad establish Tamaki's first overseas branch.

2007

United States

Pursuing the opportunity to automate one of the world's largest cheese factories, Tamaki sends 8 engineers from New Zealand and establishes the US subsidiary, Tamaki Control LLC, in New Mexico.

2008

USA Idaho and Growth

The Idaho branch is established to service the many Dairy plants around Twin Falls. By now Tamaki employs 29 full-time Engineers.

Plant Replay and Ignition

From Colorado, Joe, Cody and Leah develop Plant Replay for Ignition, which allows HMI users to Pause, Rewind and Replay plant operations from their SCADA screens.

2015

Ireland Subsidiary

Tamaki establishes a European subsidiary in the Republic of Ireland.

By now, Tamaki employs 42 full-time engineers worldwide.

2016

California, USA

Expansion into California, 50 full-time engineers.

Swansea, Wales

The mainland UK branch allows us to be closer to our customers in Wales and England.

Michigan, USA

Engineers from all US branches relocate to Michigan for the automation of a large new cheese factory at St Johns - commissioned amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Automating the Future

Tamaki is continuing to grow. It now employs 72 full-time engineers, 34 of whom are shareholders, and is expanding into Texas and Canada.
